snow black

Never once was there a queen
That we couldn’t call serene
She wasn’t very tall
But she loved bocce ball
Her demons always let her win
There’s seven to be exact
They even scared away her men
those bros will never come back

boom baby

I frantically ran looking left and right while the sounds of bells and screaming echoes across the theme park. I bit my lip as I nervously waited at the top thrill dragster for my mother to come find me. I hear a faint scream that sounded like my name, but was unsure due to the roller coaster drowning out the distinct tone. Suddenly, I see what looks like my mother in the distance hysterically searching for me. At that moment I sprinted toward her and jumped into her arms as a solitary tear of joy rolled down her gracious face. “Don’t ever scare me like that again you hear me?” she said. And that was the last time I ever let go of my mothers hand in an amusement park, no matter how excited I was.

spanish pineapple

One gloomy day on a spanish side street, i was attacked by a flying pineapple. It jumped out of a 6 story window and landed on my cerebral cortex. From then on, I have not been able to live without the image of angry pineapples that think they can fly.

Tyler The Creator

My friends came over, and we all piled into the car.
My friends come screeching up the driveway as I run out the front door and jump head first through the back window of the car, which was overcrowded with bodies.

When I walked into that crowded entryway, I got some very weird looks and quite a few raised eyebrows.
The foyer was jam-packed with swarming guests that seemed to be puzzled with the fact that I had a baby in my grasp.

We went to the mall after we were finished eating, and I had to take Tyler with me.
We B-lined straight to the Polaris mall in order to blow every last dollar in our pockets on useless things, but of course I had to bring Tyler with me.

empathy

It is much more interesting to actually recreate an incident for readers than to simply tell about it.
-          In my narrative I try to put the reader in my shoes and let them be in the incident.
relates events in sequence. The creation of specific scenes set at actual times and in actual places. Show, don't tell. Re-create an event by setting it in a specific time and space.
-          I think I do that… if not ill learn to
includes detailed observations of people, places, and events.
-          Yes I try to go into detail so the reader knows exactly where  they are and whats going on
Do you recall sights, sounds, smells, tactile feelings, and tastes? Use actual or re-created dialogue? Give actual names of people and places.
-          Yes, I did.
presents important changes, contrasts, or conflicts and creates tension.
-          There is a pretty tense part in my story… no conflicts though
Do you grow from change? Is there a conflict between characters? Is there a contrast between the past and the present?
-          There was no conflict in my story only because it was an experience and it went very well
is told from a point of view--usually the author's point of view.
-          Yes, my point of view and my thoughts
focuses on connection between past events, people, or places and the present. How relevant is the event today? How relevant will it be in your future?
-          This narrative will be relevant throughout the rest of my life.  It changed the way I see things and now I have much more appreciation for everything
makes a point, communicates a main idea or dominant impression.
-          yep
Your details, specific scenes, accounts of changes or conflicts, and connections between past and present should point to a single main idea or dominant impression for your paper as a whole. While not stating a flat "moral" of the story, the importance of your memory must be clear to your reader.
-          I think it was pretty clear and obvious.

·         Look back through your narrative: answer on your blog the questions or statements of each bullet point as it relates to your own narrative.  After reading the piece on EMPATHY, think about some ways that you can change your narrative.  We will be revising tomorrow along with peer editing!

Helen Keller

Helen Keller

1. I thought it was a well written narrative but its just a lot to comprehend because its hard to imagine both not being able to see and not being able to hear.
2. I thought it was very interesting the way Helen learned new words and their meanings. I cant imagine trying to learn anything if i was deaf and blind.
3. I was suprised that Helen was able to learn words and relate them to feelings and objects.
4. It did not change my outlook on Helen Keller only because ive heard her amazing story and have still never been able to completely understand what it takes to do what she did while being blind and deaf.
5. Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog, when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in, and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line, and you waited with beating heart for something to happen?

In the still, dark world in which I lived there was no strong sentiment or tenderness.

As the cool stream gushed over one hand she spelled into the other the word water, first slowly, then rapidly.

6. It's a lot different when you have a first hand experience and are able to account for vivid details of what happened.  When someone else is telling the story that element of detail is eliminated.

7. broken tooth, best day ever, first day of school, 11/11/11
